Testament Tuesday – When Life Gets Rerouted

Surely 20 days into this new year we haven’t already lost our way….but what if we never found it to start the year? In Isaiah 58:11 God gives us a promise, a promise to always guide us. In this verse He says,

“I will always show you where to go. I’ll give you a full life in the emptiest of places.”

In this very verse He is promising to guide us and to provide for us. He’s telling us that if He brought us to a point, He will bring us through it as well. Did you start out this year with a huge mountain to climb or a battle to fight? Well, He will make you a climber and a soldier. There’s never a situation He can’t get you out of, we just have to trust Him. Trust that God is using anything and everything we’re going through to prepare us for where He will take us next.

I don’t know about you all, but my husband and I cannot go a single road trip without using our Apple Maps app. Like I HAVE to put the address in the GPS or we are totes going to get lost. And sure enough when siri says “turn left”, we listen and turn left. We trust that she will get us to our destination and we listen to her directions. So why is it so hard for us to listen to God’s directions and trust in his guidance? He will never lead us in the wrong direction and yet here we are day after day questioning His route. God had a plan for our lives before we could even open our eyes, and He’s never gotten it wrong. Where ever God guides us, we can (and should) fully trust that it’s the right way to go. Even if it seems like He’s taking us down a backroad leading to nowhere… we need to trust.

Have you ever missed a turn while using your GPS app? Because I sure have. It’s like all of a sudden siri yells exit here and it’s just far too late for that. Well what happens then? Siri starts to reroute you, doesn’t she? She doesn’t scrap the whole trip just from one missed turn and neither does our God. Time and time again we miss our turns or aren’t on the same page as God when it comes to His directions, but He will always reroute us.

Sometimes God has the perfect plan for us and all we had to do was make the right turn. But we didn’t do it, so now He is rerouting us. Know that when we get rerouted we are no longer on the fastest route, but we will still make it to the final destination. Sometimes when we continually fight Gods plan and His ways it takes us a verrry long time to get there. Now’s the time to stop taking the long way due to being rerouted. Now’s the time to fully understand that God has a plan, and it’s a darn good plan, and He is literally mapping out the way to go. Nothing in our lives is by accident, so stay alert and follow the directions!

He promised us that He would always guide us, but following His guidance is up to us. It takes obedience, faith, and full surrender. Which is hard for most of us because we like to think we are in control, and in thinking that we are only delaying ourselves that much more. If God told us His exact plans, wouldn’t you want to get there as fast as you can? Wouldn’t you want to get there in 5 miles instead of 10? Umm duh!

Today, God is guiding us to our destinations. Won’t we follow Him and trust in His way? We need to take time out of day to stop and listen to His prompts so we don’t miss what He has in store for us. And if we miss our turn, there’s no need to worry, God knows all the ways to get us to where we need to be. Will it take a little longer? Yes, but we will get there with God’s guidance.

God will never give up on us. No matter how many wrong turns or epic mistakes we make along the way. He is constantly watching, tracking, and guiding us. So proceed to the route, get back on track and see all that He has in store for you. Our God is telling us “I will always show you where to go. I’ll give you a full life in the emptiest of places.”

Trust in God’s guidance, He will never lead us astray.
