Testament Tuesday – Being Grateful Even When…

How many times do we wake up feeling disappointed? Let down that the big things we have planned for our lives haven’t happened yet? And I know it’s hard to stay positive and hopeful when you feel like you pray and pray for the breakthrough and it just doesn’t seem to be happening. But I am here to tell you (and me) to not give up. We do have great things ahead, that a BIG God has planned for us. I believe that God doesn’t give us hopes and dreams without providing a path to achieve them. We can achieve our dreams, but sometimes it doesn’t look like we imagined it. This is where our faith and our gratitude come into play… it’s in our nature to think that we will wake up one day and God will magically give us all of our hopes and desires. But that’s not how God works is it? He’s not a magician. Achieving our hopes and dreams takes work and patience, not wishing and waiting. We have to keep our faith and gratitude strong and know that when we ask God, He will provide.

Have you ever wondered why God doesn’t just answer all of our prayers? I certainly do. But then I think about this, if God just gave me everything I’ve ever wanted right then and there I wouldn’t need Him very much would I? And if He can’t trust me with the blessings and answered prayers that He’s already given me, why would He give me more? Think of it this way, I’m sure at one point or another you’ve told yourself “I’ll be happier when…(I make more money, I lose the weight, etc.). But I’m here to tell you that if you’re not happy with what you’ve currently been blessed with, you’re not going to be happy with more. AND if you aren’t faithful and grateful with what you’ve been given now, why would God even want to give you more??

Luke 16:10 says

“If you are faithful in the little things, you will be faithful in the large ones. But if you are dishonest in the little things, you won’t be honest with the greater responsibilities.”

What does that mean? God wants to bless us with more, He truly does. But when we complain or worry or aren’t grateful with the HUGE blessings that He’s already given us, He’s not going to give us more.

We are given blessings and favor from God every single day, and we don’t deserve any of it. He trusts us daily to use our current situations, talents, hope, and dreams to the fullest. If we are grateful with little, we will be trusted with more. But if we can’t see the good in life – the roof over our heads, the money in our pockets, the job, the food – then I assure you we won’t be given more. Stop screwing yourself over by expecting more without showing gratitude for what you have.

It’s simple really. We must be grateful with what we have today. We have to give our best efforts, show up, and be faithful.
