Testament Tuesday – Counted Steps
These days almost everyone has a way to know just how many steps they take each and every day. Whether it’s with a watch or our phones, this kind of information is so easy to access. I don’t know if you’re like me, but if I go on a walk or do a workout and forget to start my watch it completely throws me off. It’s as if my brain thinks that just because it wasn’t tracked it somehow doesn’t count! And no just typing that I realize how absolutely ridiculous that is.
But it’s just human nature that you’re going to be more mindful of your steps if you have some way to track them. I mean doesn’t it make you feel good and accomplished when you finish your day with over 5,000 steps?! But it doesn’t make any sense to say if you don’t have a tracker then your steps don’t count right? I mean a step is a step.
But do our steps truly count?
Psalm 37:23 says,
“The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.”
God directs our steps. But for every step we take each day, how many of them actually align with the steps God has laid out for us?
When God created us, He had a specific plan. He has had our entire lives planned out since well before we were born. And even though He already knows the plan He has set out for us, He still delights in our steps, the details of our lives. It’s so easy to know that God has a specific plan for us and that we should follow it daily, but do we? Do our steps closely align with His steps?
Well it’s time to take a deep dive into our steps.
We need to ask ourselves where is it we are going? Is this somewhere that God would want us to go? If we keep walking the same path we’re walking, will it take us to a place where we want to go?
Then we need to ask ourselves who are we walking these steps with? Are we surrounding ourselves with people who are living the life we desire to live? Are they also seeking God in the same ways we are? I mean we’re walking with them daily, so aren’t these important things to know?
What are we walking towards? Often times we find ourselves in places we know we shouldn’t be, in messes we’ve created. It’s in times like this when we need to ask ourselves, should I have walked into this situation in the first place?
Lastly, we need to ask ourselves if we’re stepping over or going around things? Are we avoiding something just because it’s hard? There are going to be steps in this life that we must take, but they won’t be easy. If God brought you to it, He will bring you through it. It’s time we stop stepping around the hard things and go through them.
So today as you take your daily steps we need to ask ourselves if they would count on God’s step tracker. Are we going where we’re supposed to go? Stepping into the things we’re meant to step into? Taking the next steps in becoming the person God has created us to be?
The Lord directs the steps of the Godly. If you’re obedient to God, He will direct your steps to make them count. It’s time we seek Him and seek obedience. Only then will He direct our steps and take delight in every detail.
