Testament Tuesday – Success
I’m sure I’m not alone in sometimes feeling that I’m living below my potential. It’s the nagging feeling that I’m not good enough to do “xyz”, the guilt I feel for sharing things, or the temptation to quit. But I know that it is not Gods intention to live out this precious, beautiful life I have below my potential. I was never intended to live the days of this life I have been given in any way short of passionate, purposeful, intentional and fulfilled.
We are often flooded with images of what society defines success as. We scroll social media comparing ourselves to others whether we realize it or not. But majority of the time we are only seeing a snapshot into their lives. We only see the good and the success and we get discouraged. We start to believe the lie of I’ll never get to their level of success, or I’m not worthy enough to do this… Chances are wherever we want to be in life won’t happen overnight. It probably won’t even happen in a few years. It’s time to stop the comparison game of success. It’s time to embrace the grind because actually the grind is good. You’ll never feel better or find greater happiness if you don’t give up. Don’t wuss out because of the work it will require or the feeling of inadequacy that is a total LIE.
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” Proverbs 16:3
Step 1: Commit to the Lord. What does this mean exactly?? It means you let go and give everything to God. This one is HARD for me if I’m being honest. But as scripture says, this is how we show our commitment. We give it to God, everything we have. We take it out of our hands and into His. Do you have a big scary goal in life that you want to have total control over? Try this instead. I know for other control freaks like me, this is an insanely hard thing to do. And yet it is exactly what you are being called into. Give it to God.
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do.”
Step 2: Whatever You DO. This means we have to DO the hard things. We can’t just pray and give God our plans and sit back and wait. We can’t just sit around and ask God to do the rest. Get up and WORK for it. The life you want is going to take some “doing” from you…so do it.
Once you’ve given it all to God and you’ve started doing the hard work required, what happened next?? Well read it again, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”
It says it right there! Your plans will be established!
So basically, what God is saying is, you show up and keep showing up even when you’re tired, it’s hard, you don’t feel like it, and it just doesn’t seem to be working. You keep doing it. You keep giving it to God and trust in His divine plan for your life. THEN He will establish your plans.
God will make the way. But we can’t expect him to fulfill the 2nd part if we don’t do the first part.
The life we want, the life we were created for will come as a result of living our days as the people we were created to be. Continually seeking to give it all to God, getting to work, and trusting Him with the results.
