Testament Tuesday – Surprising Ways of God
Our God amazes me, but at the same time He can confuse me too. I mean let’s be honest, God is very unpredictable. When I think for sure He’s going to do one thing, more times than not will He shock me with something totally different. We all tend to think we understand how God works until He does something we completely don’t expect. We often times try to convince God that we have good plans that we want to do, then God shows up and WOW is His plan much better. Sometimes His greater plans don’t always look better initially to us; it doesn’t always align with our plans.
Isaiah 55:8-9 says: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
So basically, anytime I think I have everything lined up to go according to my plans, this verse reminds me that God always knows better, and I need to back down. God’s thoughts and ways are higher. He has a much bigger perspective and view over our lives. He knows every single detail from start to finish, while we only know the partial and very limited information about our days.
Sometimes we wait for the inevitable breaking of our lives. The bad news, the delay, the let down and they never come. We think we have screwed up so royally that all of our plans must be shattered soon enough right? So why keep on going? But here’s the thing about our God, if He doesn’t want it to be broken, then it won’t. We could have every odd stacked against us and zero percent of not breaking, but if God doesn’t want us to break then you better believe we won’t break. It’s those times in my own life when I know I should be completely broken, there seems to be no hope and I’m just waiting for the break and God chooses to keep me whole.
On the other side of that is the breaking. Sometimes He allows us to be completely shattered for a greater purpose that we don’t see in the moment. Are we any different? Nope we’re the same and yet God just had different plans for us. Most times we don’t see it coming, we can’t plan or prepare for it but it’s EXACTLY what God had planned.
If he allows us to break then know He will use the brokenness for something so much bigger and better. If He doesn’t want us to break, then nothing we do will break us. God is for us, not against us. He knows every detail of our lives and wants nothing but the best for us. So with that we no longer have to fear a single thing falling apart or crashing down in our lives. If something breaks, it’s for a purpose. If plans change, it’s for a purpose and know that that purpose is a good one. We know God has good plans for us, plans to prosper and not harm (Jeremiah 29:11). We shouldn’t be surprised when God comes in and does the things He does. We shouldn’t be surprised when we try to break but He won’t let it happen.
Know it’s all for a bigger and better purpose.
