Testament Tuesday – Trust

I know I’m not alone in playing the waiting game of life. Whether you’re waiting to start a family (like me), waiting for that new job, or waiting for the “right” time to do xyz. We are constantly waiting. And while we are waiting to seems like nothing is happening. We’re just sitting here wondering if and when God is going to show up and do something. But the thing we need to remind ourselves in the wait is that God IS doing something, and just because we can’t see it, doesn’t mean it’s not happening. He is moving and working on our behalf from the first time we bring it to Him.

Zach and I prayed for a year for a new job opportunity to come up for him. As we prayed for the job we sat and waited in deafening silence that nothing was going to come up. But before we ever got the job opportunity God was making things happen, we just couldn’t see it. He was putting the pieces into place for all of it to work on His time, not ours. Honestly there’s no way Zach would have changed jobs in November if we would have been giving birth to our baby. We prayed that he would have a different job to give him more time with our children and we were blessed with that answered prayer, and if we wouldn’t have stuck out the wait we would have missed it. But we didn’t see all of the moving God was doing when we were in the wait, we just got impatient and frustrated.

All God wants is us to trust Him in the process. Trust that He is doing something even when it feels like he isn’t. Often times when our prayers get answered we just assume it happened at the snap of our fingers, when in reality God has been working on it since we very first asked!

The same goes for anything we’re waiting for. If we stop believing in the process and settle, or worse, give up then what happens?? I’d like to know how many times we quit believing in the process and when we do that we miss all that God was doing. It’s so hard and I get that more than most. When we can’t see it happening right now we grow frustrated and weary and we begin to believe the lies that God isn’t really for us..

Let us not fall into the trap of the enemy’s lies. We can’t stop trusting God for the things we pray for.

I am naturally not a quitter, like I just can’t give up on something very easily. It’s both a blessing and a curse. But I do struggle with trusting God. I don’t necessarily quit on Him, but I tend to talk myself out of His promises for me. I doubt, worry, or settle.

I’ll tell myself that it’s just not meant to happen for me instead of waiting on God’s big plan for me. I get impatient and desperate in the wait. Then I start to forget all that He has blessed me with along the way and during the wait. I’m annoyed with myself for even admitting this! I wonder how many times God has been working on something spectacular for me, but because I’m so impatient I just worried myself into a tizzy and settled for something less.

I don’t know about you but I don’t want to keep doing that! I’m asking Him today to help me stop giving up in the wait, to stop worrying myself out of the blessings ahead. I want His plan and I want to trust His process.

Jeremiah 17: 7-8

“But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.”

What does this mean? It means that when we put our trust in God, no matter how long the wait might be, we are still going to get our miracle. We never stop producing fruit – it says it right there! It’s our trust in God that allows us to continue to do the things we need to do even when we don’t feel like it. Our trust in God tells us things will be just fine even when they don’t feel fine.

Time and time again God has proven to us He can be trusted. He always provides for us exactly what we need (might not seem that way to us in the moment…). He always gets us through the hard times. He has, whether we want to admit it or not. We may not like His way or understand it, but He never fails us.

We need to remember this as we wait. We don’t need to see the process behind the answered prayers to know it’s happening. He is doing something right now. Trust in Him as He works in unseen ways. Don’t grow weary or settle.

Trust in Him as you wait.
