What’s Cookin’ Wednesday – Lentil Sloppy Joes

This is such a simple recipe that can be made with beef or ground turkey as well!
Ingredients:

-2 tsp olive oil
-1 15 ounce can of lentils (or 1lb ground beef/turkey)
-3/4 cup chopped onion (we use frozen)
-3/4 cup chopped green pepper (we use frozen)
-2 cloves chopped garlic
-2 cups all natural tomato sauce
-1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
-1 ½ tsp hot sauce
-1 tbsp maple syrup
-4-6 Whole wheat hamburger buns (depends on how much you put on each sandwich)
Directions:
-In a nonstick skillet heat oil and cook onions and peppers until translucent
-Add garlic and cook for additional 3-4 minutes
-Add lentils (or other source of protein) to mix and cook until done
-Add tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, and maple syrup to mixture cook for 5-6 minutes
Serve on whole wheat buns with your favorite sides!
